How To NOT Ruin Your Weight Loss Plan is not as hard as most people would think…
You have been chipping away at your weight loss for the past 6 weeks. Everything is going well… You are losing weight, food is tasting ok, attending regular exercise but then suddenly something switches.
The morning ritual of poached eggs and salmon doesn’t seem appetising.
Going to the gym after work seems like a chore.
Making your food the night before is now way down on your list… its relaxing time right?
So whats changed?
Why does this happen?
And what can you do to make sure this doesn’t happen again…
Lets break down the 3 components of weight loss.
Food: It doesn’t matter who you are at some point throughout your new healthy eating regime you are going to have a ‘cheat’… a chocolate bar when you shouldn’t, extra portion or food, wine… anything that was not on your original list of ‘to-do’ when losing weight.
How To Avoid This: Its simple. Accept it, learn from it and move on. It really is that simple.
Don’t join the ‘oh ill start again tomorrow club’ just make sure you get your next food intake right. Don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake because above all you must remember that losing weight is about a lifestyle change.
Its about switching from one thought process to another when it comes to food, exercise and lifestyle and its not something that just happens (for most).
I would also recommend writing down after or just thinking about how you felt when you ate/drank that time.
How did it make you feel?
Why did you fancy it?
Exercise: Sometimes work, family, social…. things can get in the way of the gym. It can stop us wanting to go and we can break the cycle. There will also be days when you really can’t be bothered to train but you must keep the cycle of being active. If its in your diary to train Wednesday then you must train Wednesday.
How To Avoid This: If you have days when you can’t be bothered to train or when things get in the way look for alternatives.
Go for a walk, swim, run, bike ride… just doing something that keeps you active on the day planned and do not break the habit. Its essential you keep to the habit to ensure you stay on track.
Lifestyle: Social, Work, Family, Friends…. just some of what makes up our lifestyle (including food and exercise).
Yet things happen… somethings happen that stop us from training.
Meals out with friends become unavoidable (You really don’t need to avoid these from the start) and we ‘reluctantly’ end up going knowing it could ruin our weight loss plans.
So what do you do?
Go with it and eat what they are having or just drink?
How To Avoid This: My advice is simple… Make the right choice. If you are going for food be sensible with the menu. Ask for any sauces to be put in a separate bowl and look to avoid anything you would not normally have.
If you are drinking always choose ‘white spirits’ over other drinks so thinks like Vodka, Gin etc are better choices.
Most importantly though remember this: As mentioned before we may all make mistakes… but its how you handle those mistakes and move on that defines your success.
